Commonly asked questions about TACVALVE products.
FAQ
Can I change my order?
Yes, if the order has not yet shipped. We ship fast, so contact us at contact@tacvalve.com. Once it's shipped it cannot be cancelled.
How does the antimicrobial feature work?
Each of our products are embedded with food-safe, antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties that can delay the appearance and growth of mold and fungus for 10-35 days. It does not need to be renewed or reapplied.
Developed for the food industry, it is safe for drinking and adds no taste or flavor to your water.
Will the MODCAN, CCAL, or QAL connect to any gas mask?
You will need to add the Type A or Type M drinking cap that came with your specific mask. It varies by manufacturer.
For an easy visual guide, please see the diagram here.
Your gas mask drinking tube will NOT connect to a standard closure cap (CCAL) or QUICKSHOT cap (MODCAN) without first adding the cap that came with your mask.
The narrow 38mm threads on your MODCAN, CCAL, or QAL are compatible with Avon Water Canteen Caps (8465-01-529-9800), Mira Canteen Caps, Dräger Canteen Caps, and Nato M40 gas masks.
Do I need to wash my MODCAN, CCAL, or QAL?
The MODCAN, CCAL and QAL are dishwasher safe.
An occasional hot water rinse is usually all you need to keep your MODCAN or CCAL smelling fresh.
While a good soapy wash is still recommended periodically, your MODCAN or CCAL won’t smell like mold or mildew with normal use.
Adding electrolytes may require an occasional scrub with a bottle brush if sugars or other particles from additives build up inside.
How tough is the MODCAN, CCAL, or QAL?
Very tough! They exceed all MIL-C-43103 or MIL-C-51278 standards.
You can watch us smash a complete MODCAN on rock repeatedly here.
Can I freeze my MODCAN, CCAL, or QAL?
Yes, but make sure to leave a small expansion gap at the top for an optimal experience.
If overfilled, the flexible MODCAN bottle can expand or balloon, but it will return to normal shape once thawed.
Is it safe to add boiling water?
Yes, you can add boiling water, the MODCAN bottle will just become a little soft.
As always, never boil water directly in a MODCAN over an open flame.
Be careful when handling hot water to avoid burns. Your QUICKSHOT valve may vent hot steam in some situations.
My QUICKSHOT valve leaked a little bit, is this normal?
No, under normal use your QUICKSHOT valve should not leak. Try the following to troubleshoot:
Make sure your gaskets are seated properly.
Make sure your strap is installed correctly and not blocking the wide mouth threads.
Our QUICKSHOT valve requires purposeful force to activate, but may not be ideal in every situation. You should consider a standard closure cap (CCAL) for certain applications.
If you suspect your QUICKSHOT valve may still have an issue (such as a defect), please reach out to Contact@TACVALVE.com for a replacement.
Why does it cost more than other bottles?
As a company, we’ve invested heavily in American technology, design, and manufacturing to create something that’s truly one-of-a-kind — a process that has already required a significant investment.
You work hard for your money, and we aim to provide a product that is full of features and worth every cent.
It’s difficult to create a bottle that does more than anything else on the market, is 100% made in the USA, and is also affordable. We want to give you the best bottle we possibly can.
Will the CCAL or QAL fit on my Nalgene?
Yes. It will turn your wide mouth Nalgene into a narrow mouth and allow for the addition of a customer-supplied gas mask cap.
Can I add stickers?
Yes, high-quality vinyl stickers with a little stretch are recommended when customizing your MODCAN.
Is the strap load-bearing?
Yes, the retaining ring built into the strap supports the weight of a MODCAN when full.
Carrying the bottle high on the strap where it plugs into the cap is not recommended as it could pop out. Always use the retaining ring.
For intense movements or high-risk environments it is recommended to have a secondary retention device such as a fully-enclosed carrying pouch or cover.
Will the plastic leach any chemicals in my water?
No, our virgin HDPE #2 plastic will not leach any chemicals over time and is free from BPA, BPS, PFAS, and phthalates.
Does it shed any microplastics?
The MODCAN and CCAL are made from HDPE #2 which generates significantly less microplastics during shredding than other plastics like polycarbonate (PC) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
Single-use, disposable water bottles made from PET plastic are one of the primary culprits of microplastics in our bodies (specifically the caps being screwed on and off).
Future filter products may be available for those concerned about microplastics.
